PRIYANKA CHOPRA - A MULTIFACETED POWERHOUSE

PRIYANKA CHOPRA – A MULTIFACETED POWERHOUSE

Priyanka Chopra, fondly referred as PC, a former Miss World 2000, comes from a middle-class back ground, both parents being doctors in Indian Army. Starting as a model, she joined Indian films without a godfather, as a typical Indian heroine in a male dominated Industry and productions.  However, this didn’t last long as she was not content being a ‘decoration piece’ in stereotypical male chauvinist scripts and went on to do movies like Fashion, Burfi, Bajirao Mastani etc. In ‘Mary Kom’ acting as legendary boxer Mary Kom, Priyanka excelled in portraying the character and the sport both physically and emotionally.
Though we have seen few Indian heroines shifting to Hollywood, mostly without success but Priyanka has made her mark in the Hollywood TV and Film Industry, winning accolades and awards on the way. She has been successful and acknowledged for her role as Alex Parrish in Quantico, an FBI recruit/ prime suspect and in Baywatch as an antagonist, besides lots of other roles abroad.
Priyanka Chopra continues to trailblaze with her avant-garde panache and now even being ‘Priyanka Chopra Jonas’, she resonates throughout global media. However, the acting and stardom may have been a launching pad for this spirited personality but she is a much bigger icon in the field of charity, social work and philanthropy.
Although Indian culture and philosophy espouses service to others, though historically, we find few examples of individuals whose charity has gone beyond religion. Typically, women’s charitable role in our patriarchal society has been limited to their families generally by sacrificing their sense of identity and individuality. In fact, this may be a world phenomenon and now we find women’s growing participation in humanitarian and charitable causes, bringing significant social change and reducing gender discrimination.
Though India has a fair share of female social activist like Medha Patkar’s but we also have emerging voices of ‘Activists” who have taken up causes hitherto unthinkable. Few celebrities are at the forefront such as Vidaya Balan’s standing for women rights, Kalki’s voice against child abuse or Sushmita’s single parenting of adoptive girls, shows empathy of these celebrities.
Amidst all, Priyanka's tireless humanitarian service to improve the quality of life for children, besides working on plethora of issues ranging from women empowerment, environment and topical crisis effecting humankind, is commendable.

The Priyanka Chopra Foundation (www.smilefoundationindia.org) focuses on children education, health, livelihood, women empowerment, disaster response, empowering Grassroots, child for child.  Priyanka has done much more and she has been backing environmental charities, supporting eco-friendly initiatives, solar power in India by adopting villages without electricity.
There are few National ambassadors for UNICEF in India. After Sharmila Tagore, Priyanka Chopra is the second film star to be appointed National Ambassador for UNICEF from India, also Priyanka has been the longest UNICEF ambassador ahead of stars like Amir Khan and Shahrukh Khan. Her work was recognised in 2016, and she was named Global UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador after serving as National Goodwill ambassador to India. She has been associated with the world welfare body for over a decade and conferred the title due to her extensive work on child rights, on its 70th anniversary, she was presented Ambassadorship by legendary football player David Beckham and Netflix hit star Millie Bobby Brown. Priyanka Chopra is in the category of people who are known for their passionate humanitarian work like Audrey Hepburn, Angelina Jolie, George Clooney, Oprah Winfrey, Nicole Kidman and other reputable names around the world.
Priyanka recently broke her silence on how, early in her career she was asked to sign “No Pregnancy Clause” and the hostility she had to fight for, the struggles she went through, but the intrinsic confidence, her biggest asset, has always invigorated her and leading to be placed among 100 most influential people in International magazines Time and Forbes.
Priyanka Chopra, an eloquent orator, communicating and debates relevant topics with intelligence, passion and conviction on public forums. She is a motivational speaker and encourages others to rise again and again, believe in their conviction, grab opportunities, dream big and become compassionate ‘humans’. She reflects hope, courage, confidence, strength in her animated speeches, whether you watch her live on stage, interviews or at the Ellen show (as we know she has done so many shows that can’t be counted) with her persuasive gesturing, Priyanka Chopra is well aware on how to have a conversation with audience at any level.
“To be a philanthropist, you don’t have to be Nelson Mandela. You just have to look around and ask, what little bit can I do? Whose life can I touch?
                                                                                Priyanka Chopra
We see a lot of brand ambassadors propagating social causes, though most are mere photo Icons, doing media campaigns to make the humanitarian charities popular, but lack in sincerity and commitment. In contrast Priyanka, genuinely dedicated to various issues, which are hindrance and dangerous to society at large, not only supports financially but her persuasive dialogue and debate at public forums ensure continuous movement forward.
An outspoken Priyanka Chopra has always pursued her dreams, career and personal life in her own inimical manner, giving one hundred percent to succeed and make her position solid with total conviction, confidence and humility. She is an intelligent girl who doesn’t mince words and dedicated to humanity, human rights and social justice in the International arena.
Priyanka has done well for the society and we hope her work will make real difference to humanity, we must also make it our priority to help each other with best of humility to embrace all. Priyanka Chopra has been fulfilling the dreams of unprivileged ones with her sheer dedication, determination and effort.
Whatever may be our thoughts on such subjects, but these famous voices, their work and commitment is leading to social progress. Its certain, with help and support of passionate celebrities, bringing intensity to the relevant causes, we will make this planet more civilized. Although all human beings should commit to better society but we need more ‘PRIYANKAS’ to light up the lives of underprivileged and distressed.

T he forest yields many non-renewable and renewable natural resources, though the tropical forest is threatened by habitat destruction, yet it is the most biologically diverse reservoir and has myriad range of animal and plant species. Recently, a Colombian family’s ordeal in the dangerous Amazon jungle captured the headlines all over the world. It was a harrowing and heart-breaking journey for the family as they tried to escape from an area scarred by endless violent guerilla conflicts. On May 1 st, Magdalena Mucutuy with her four children boarded a small aircraft to fly from Araracuara to San Jose del Guaviare to join her husband for security and safety of the family. But the destiny had its own plan for them, due

PARVEEN BABI - IN REMEMBRANCE

PARVEEN BABI - IN REMEMBRANCE This is in the memory of one of the most beautiful, educated and glamourous model turned actresses of Indian cinema, Parveen Babi. She was not only an exquisite beauty but highly talented girl who mesmerized audience with her screen presence and performance during her time in Indian film Industry. Parveen Babi, the only child, born to her parents after 14 years on 4th April 1949, went to Mount Carmel High School and ended up with a degree in English literature from St Xavier’s College Ahmedabad. From the beginning she had interest in painting, writing, reading and playing piano which she  continued till her later life. She was a simple fun- loving girl, with peculiar sense of humor and wanted to settle down happily married. Vying for love, happiness and fulfilment, destiny did not oblige, and played its part otherwise, leading to unhappiness and disappointments. Her journey in filmdom began with h

THE RISE OF ACTION GENRE - INDIAN ACTRESSES

THE RISE OF ACTION GENRE – INDIAN ACTRESSES The gradual progress of female action-oriented movies in Indian cinema started in late 80’s. The fundamental problem about the popularity and acceptance of heroine lead action movies in 80’s, continues to arise even at present, it is understandable with limited and prejudiced perception of audience about women in the dominant action roles, curtailed by the significant consideration extended to leading actors, with super heroes status, maintaining typical action formula. The quality of action-oriented film with inherent challenge requires natural talent with plausible personality and character. But it is only a decade since we are witnessing long delayed female action movies in modern times. At present, there are few female actresses, with merit, grit and determination to portray heroic roles and deserve ample opportunities to act in supreme performance action-centric movies. The debut of female ‘action act’ in Indian cinema was in
