A WAY FORWARD - INDIAN ACTRESSES

A WAY FORWARD – INDIAN ACTRESSES

How far the top most actresses of Indian silver screen have evolved from demure to proud women, doing tremendous jobs personally and professionally. Be it former Miss World Aishwarya Rai or former Miss Universe Sushmita Sen, though most of the screen divas have had ups/downs irrespective of what happened, all these women have made themselves famous by committing to their personal and professional future. It is true it has been a roller coaster ride for some, subsequently all go through such phases and these beautiful actresses learnt from criticism and kept their dignity with intelligence.
If we analyze present generation of beautiful actresses to earlier post 70’s generation peers, there is huge dissimilarity. Nowadays the courageous side of female actors has emerged, who cannot be bogged down by the excess baggage of show biz and its demands. It’s a clear win for them to show their gutsy personality.
An infamous episode happened in late 70's which proved painful for Zeenat Aman, a woman known to have  a big heart, whose career was at peak and her songs/glamour were a rage. The incident is known to all for decades. An Actor’s autobiography recently published, portrays the incident “picture perfect”, but far from truth. However, Zeenat’s diplomatic attitude carried her through breaking point.
How could she adapt?  Zeenat Aman herself said, “I have closed my mind to it. I pretend that it never happened? I don’t think about it? I don’t talk about it? That’s the best way to cope with it”. Zeenat Aman and her contemporary Parveen Babi  never manipulated or played games, both were glamourous and successful  strong women with their share of pain and tears in their time. Who can forget teary eyed Zeenat talking about her survival in her marriage, which was disaster for her, as she admitted in Simi Grewal show (Rendezvous with Simi), that she was about to have a nervous break down …. .
Some of the girls were brave enough to go public with their travails but became helpless in the end. Some females became famous and some disappeared, however recent news of Tanushree Dutta’s activism and the Indian “me too” movement, hopefully will make a safer world for the women in the Entertainment Industry.
Rekha's courage never failed, and was like an unwavering ship well anchored in turbulent seas.  This Umrao Jaan with her poetic persona and classical dancing remains a diva, drawing wild cheers and appreciation with her latest performances in film and stage shows.
As the idea of equality has started to echo from the edifice of Indian Film Industry, women are more out spoken, and not tight lipped as before, thanks to social media, they are able to share their experiences. Kangana whose talent dominates silver screen, was one of the first few girls who openly spoke her story, encouraging new comers to keep their dignity.
How former Miss World Priyanka Chopra was so determined to pursue a successful career, despite a bias against her in the Hindi film Industry, she didn’t disappear, but created a new career path for herself in Hollywood.
The pain and difficulties Priyanka Chopra went through dissolved with her strength and composure. Today, she being happily married, is one of the most successful actresses of Indian  cinema at home and abroad.
Energetic actresses like Aishwarya, Priyanka, Deepika, Kajol, Raveena, Tabu, Sushmita and others (list bit long) are happily settled, with their individual choices and they are ‘crystal clear’ about their approach towards show biz. These unyielding women can reform the structure of Indian film Industry and  easily do major reforms regarding aspiring actresses, saving them from the pitfalls.
In present communicative times, the sad cases of manipulating actresses should be stopped. But the true choice of protection and dignity must be addressed by the women themselves.
Audience connect themselves to the stars on screen, and they don’t want to read sad reality of their favourite stars being exploited. The real exploitative incidents must end in order to have unblemished film industry.
We must support the new comers for their bright future in the Film Industry.

PARVEEN BABI - IN REMEMBRANCE

PARVEEN BABI - IN REMEMBRANCE This is in the memory of one of the most beautiful, educated and glamourous model turned actresses of Indian cinema, Parveen Babi. She was not only an exquisite beauty but highly talented girl who mesmerized audience with her screen presence and performance during her time in Indian film Industry. Parveen Babi, the only child, born to her parents after 14 years on 4th April 1949, went to Mount Carmel High School and ended up with a degree in English literature from St Xavier’s College Ahmedabad. From the beginning she had interest in painting, writing, reading and playing piano which she  continued till her later life. She was a simple fun- loving girl, with peculiar sense of humor and wanted to settle down happily married. Vying for love, happiness and fulfilment, destiny did not oblige, and played its part otherwise, leading to unhappiness and disappointments. Her journey in filmdom began with h

THE RISE OF ACTION GENRE - INDIAN ACTRESSES

THE RISE OF ACTION GENRE – INDIAN ACTRESSES The gradual progress of female action-oriented movies in Indian cinema started in late 80’s. The fundamental problem about the popularity and acceptance of heroine lead action movies in 80’s, continues to arise even at present, it is understandable with limited and prejudiced perception of audience about women in the dominant action roles, curtailed by the significant consideration extended to leading actors, with super heroes status, maintaining typical action formula. The quality of action-oriented film with inherent challenge requires natural talent with plausible personality and character. But it is only a decade since we are witnessing long delayed female action movies in modern times. At present, there are few female actresses, with merit, grit and determination to portray heroic roles and deserve ample opportunities to act in supreme performance action-centric movies. The debut of female ‘action act’ in Indian cinema was in

CONTEMPORARY INDIAN CINEMA - AN ANALOGY

CONTEMPORARY INDIAN CINEMA – AN ANALOGY Any structured introduction to actors implies constant and disparate opinions about their acting prowess, which vary from performance to performance, depending on the audience to determine and unravel the potential capabilities of the artist in the Indian Film Industry. Times have changed in the film industry, the film actors with the assistance of an experimental contingent, have been choosing substantial roles they prefer, in the modern era. Tabu, a Star exhilarating with masterly creativeness, well known for valorous experimentation in movies ,which have intrigue, suspense, mystery and complexity, inspiring sensitive subtle distinction for creative new comers like Tapsee Pannu and Bhumi. Some of the new competent artists have established their foothold proficiently, with conviction and commitment, giving outstanding performances, entering the league of contemporary acting geniuses.  Kareena Kapoor with her acting talent has d
