DHARMENDRA - FOREVER AND EVER

DHARMENDRA  - FOREVER AND EVER

Dharam Singh Deol was born in a village in Sahnewal, Ludhiana, a place which became synonymous with Dharmendra. With his debut in 1960s, he has worked with all beautiful women of Indian cinema and continues to do so till today. As his movie career advanced, his genuine humility remained same with the growing popularity, he never looked down on others, and that's a great quality not everyone has.
Audiences have always appreciated his performances in action, serious, comedy and romantic movies. This versatile star, won the hearts of people by giving prized performances in some 'ART' films as well, but did not earn his due recognition. His flair for comedy is gifted, as they say an actor who can not do comedy is not a full fledged actor, but Dharmendra with inherent spontaneity, didn't have to work hard on comedy.
Dharmendra is a simple hearted man whose humility is known to all, a man who never puts himself in front of others and speaks to all in the same way. His humbleness, modesty and generosity is widely known and has earned respect from millions over decades. Giving respect to people where ever they come from is his forte, and that's what he is. He lives in the hearts of those who have met him and his innumerable fans who adore him. There is no pomposity, superiority or arrogance in him.
He himself says, "My problem is I am a human being first, sensitive and emotional and I have suffered the consequences of being so."
I reminisce, when I saw this handsome, pink cheeked and virile man sitting under a tree (during the shooting of Batwara in Film City), such a gallant man with no make up, looked distinct among various stars at that location. With natural fair complexion and pink cheeks, this actor's magnetic persona was  aggrandized by his gentleness and cheerfulness. His easy way of conversing in Punjabi and kindness in offering his personal van at our disposal to see other locations around, is very much in our heart.  His super natural persona is unbeatable, whatever lies underneath, the same is outward, there is no dual personality and there is only one  Dharmendra, whose modesty does him credit. A good natured human with  abundance civility, that is eternal Dharmendra.
He is one of the few actors who talks about his food/drinks candidly, his truthfulness is unquestionably beyond doubt. His demure personage, sensitivity and sentimentality have made him winsome and endearing to all generations.
Dharmendra won few awards after so many years in the Industry, an actor/ star who perpetually remained famous, despite lots who came and vanished, he did not get his due in Indian film industry as he deserved. His performances in art/critically acclaimed movies or comedy movies are highly appreciated and treasured by masses, whether his superb role in Chupke Chupke or ranting 'Rafta Rafta' (Kahani Kismat Ki), mimicry, action, romantic....(the list is long), a perfect hero, loved by millions.
Today, he is 85, happy with his family and leading a life as a contented man whose contribution to Indian film Industry is enormous. May God bless Dharmendra, still vibrant, dynamic and a large hearted person,
There is only one true 'PUNJAB da HERO' in Indian film Industry.... FOREVER and EVER Dharmendra.

PARVEEN BABI - IN REMEMBRANCE

PARVEEN BABI - IN REMEMBRANCE This is in the memory of one of the most beautiful, educated and glamourous model turned actresses of Indian cinema, Parveen Babi. She was not only an exquisite beauty but highly talented girl who mesmerized audience with her screen presence and performance during her time in Indian film Industry. Parveen Babi, the only child, born to her parents after 14 years on 4th April 1949, went to Mount Carmel High School and ended up with a degree in English literature from St Xavier’s College Ahmedabad. From the beginning she had interest in painting, writing, reading and playing piano which she  continued till her later life. She was a simple fun- loving girl, with peculiar sense of humor and wanted to settle down happily married. Vying for love, happiness and fulfilment, destiny did not oblige, and played its part otherwise, leading to unhappiness and disappointments. Her journey in filmdom began with h

THE RISE OF ACTION GENRE - INDIAN ACTRESSES

THE RISE OF ACTION GENRE – INDIAN ACTRESSES The gradual progress of female action-oriented movies in Indian cinema started in late 80’s. The fundamental problem about the popularity and acceptance of heroine lead action movies in 80’s, continues to arise even at present, it is understandable with limited and prejudiced perception of audience about women in the dominant action roles, curtailed by the significant consideration extended to leading actors, with super heroes status, maintaining typical action formula. The quality of action-oriented film with inherent challenge requires natural talent with plausible personality and character. But it is only a decade since we are witnessing long delayed female action movies in modern times. At present, there are few female actresses, with merit, grit and determination to portray heroic roles and deserve ample opportunities to act in supreme performance action-centric movies. The debut of female ‘action act’ in Indian cinema was in

KAJOL - A CLOISTERED TALENT

KAJOL - A CLOISTERED TALENT Having immense allure like her mother, but not as vivacious, Kajol with beauty, extraordinaire talent and versatile artistry has been brightening Indian Cinema with her metier. Born into illustrious Samarth-Mukherjee family, which has had a long cinematic history, going back four generations, having prominent feminist role models from the times of Bombay Talkies, if there was such a thing as ‘acting genes’ Kajol certainly has them in abundance and does justice to any role she enacts. In all her movies, Kajol engages and blends into the character and her forte is spontaneity. She is instinctive and apparently walks literally into a scene with her natural fluster, without any extra effort or histrionics, a talent not many actors have, she illuminates naturally on the cue ‘lights, camera, action’, and promptly sparkles the canvas. An actress who has given innumerable commercial hits, reigned from mid 90's and consistently giving phenomenal perform
