LITTLE WARRIORS' AMAZON STORY

                                            LITTLE WARRIORS’ AMAZON STORY

The Amazon Forest, also called Amazon jungle or Amazonia covers forty percent of South American continent, is the largest Rainforest in the world. The forest yields many non-renewable and renewable natural resources, though the tropical forest is threatened by habitat destruction, yet it is the most biologically diverse reservoir and has myriad range of animal and plant species.

Recently, a Colombian family’s ordeal in the dangerous Amazon jungle captured the headlines all over the world. It was a harrowing and heart-breaking journey for the family as they tried to escape from an area scarred by endless violent guerilla conflicts. On May 1st, Magdalena Mucutuy with her four children boarded a small aircraft to fly from Araracuara to San Jose del Guaviare to join her husband for security and safety of the family.

But the destiny had its own plan for them, due to technical failure, the single engine aircraft crashed in the forest. All three adults, the pilot, Magdalena Mucutuy and another passenger died but the kids Lesly 13, Soleiny 9, Tien 5, and Cristin 11 months old survived the crash, landed in the dense Amazon rainforest, teeming with wild, venomous and deadly creatures.

The children belonging to Huitoto Indigenous tribe, one of the nearly 500 Indigenous groups living in the rainforest endured the deathly nature’s environs for forty days before they were found in the forbidding terrain. Unexpectedly, all alone, the eldest daughter Lesly followed her own passage with alertness, vitality, and solidity, never gave up hope and took on huge responsibility of her siblings after the terrible loss of their mother.

A brave thirteen-year-old Lesly with her indigenous knowledge, unshakable belief and adaptable skills kept her siblings alive in the ominous jungle, significantly displayed self-restraint, stamina, and fortitude. Being adept to living off the land, the kids survived on the bounty of the forest, identified edible fruits, nuts and tubers, even fed the infant with exceptional ingenuity and avoided starvation. Trudging through the impregnable terrain, Lesly navigated the treacherous jungle and her wish to survive dispelled the fear of failure, she confronted the natural hazards vigilantly.

In the modern world, technology has completely restructured the education system and the urban youth have access to enormous amount of information and knowledge. In contemporary society, the children are deeply connected to technology which has a major impact on their attitude, expectations, interests and motivation, with some of these factors adversely affecting their attention span and overall perception. High-Tech Kids with narrow focus lack flexible thinking, mental and physical readiness for survival in tough times, furthermore, it might be beyond their potential to connect with nature spiritually and understand the fury and vagaries of the ecosphere.

In an ultra-technological 21st century, we are disengaged with our common sense, as a consequence the gradual disconnection of our sensory faculty has a disturbing influence on mental and emotional health, also the occurring distraction of conflicting thoughts generate fallacious, illogical and irrational behaviour. However, Lesly tuned perfectly to her inherent cognitive and perceptual power, defied the nature ‘s harshness. She demonstrated mental acuity, perceptive energy and innate survival capability without the aid of science and technology.

At present we are living in challenging and incredible times, the complex world is experiencing armed violence, conflicts, civil wars, terrorist insurgency and multifarious global crises which are specifically traumatizing the children and youth. We may be optimistic, skillful, flexible, adaptable but at the same time we are restricted to survive in ‘network system’ only. In today’s fast paced environment, we have vast access to relevant information but over-reliance on digital science has negatively impacted our self-belief and self-confidence. The repercussions of cut-throat competition spikes interpersonal tensions, toxic relationships, chronic negativity, unhealthy and intense rivalries.

In this day and age, human beings with multitude of current issues are utterly bereft of persistence and perseverance, give up their goals easily and they are scared to take risks in life. Needless to say, Lesly with unrelenting diligence and true grit abhorred mortal peril, with native disposition she accomplished her primary goal. It is a well-known fact that rapid pace of urbanization and technology has helped humanity but the negative reverberations of the latent ‘Artificial Intelligence’ and over dependence on persuasive technology and cyber world leave humans unprepared to cope prudently in dire circumstances.

Precipitously, the children were isolated in the dark, dense forest and they heroically confronted the formidable challenges. Lesly, without any formal inculcation imbibed the way of living with ‘Nature’. A young kid with keen wit and prudence, she manifested more maturity than her age and triumphed in the end. She also expounded the ideology of kinship, validates that the close relationships are created through harmony, togetherness and familial love in contemporary life. Evidently, we cease to recognize that the family disintegration is a major problem in today’s society as humans are becoming more individualistic, self-absorbed and inconsiderate in emerging egocentric generation.

This real-life heart touching and powerful saga teaches us that learning and character are not the only domain of mature, wise and intelligent. It also gives one of the best lessons in life that human coexistence with the ‘Nature’s multitude creations’ is attainable with love, care and brotherhood for a better future of the planet. Lesly’s empathetic responses were suffused with the needs and desires of others, she bravely allowed herself to connect with the nature on a deeper level.

Lesly counted on her remarkable resilience, irrepressible sanguinity and self-discipline, maintained mental and emotional balance, habitually espoused self-control and right ethos. She is an inspiration to people of all ages, truly deserves credit for her mental energy, rational perceptiveness and intuition to overcome adversity. The powerful moral dimension to this unusual incident also reflects the significance of relationships in the world. Lesly’s nonchalant spirit and unyielding willpower to look after her siblings in the thick, dreary and eerie Amazon Forest, has left all spellbound.

THE RISE OF ACTION GENRE - INDIAN ACTRESSES

THE RISE OF ACTION GENRE – INDIAN ACTRESSES The gradual progress of female action-oriented movies in Indian cinema started in late 80’s. The fundamental problem about the popularity and acceptance of heroine lead action movies in 80’s, continues to arise even at present, it is understandable with limited and prejudiced perception of audience about women in the dominant action roles, curtailed by the significant consideration extended to leading actors, with super heroes status, maintaining typical action formula. The quality of action-oriented film with inherent challenge requires natural talent with plausible personality and character. But it is only a decade since we are witnessing long delayed female action movies in modern times. At present, there are few female actresses, with merit, grit and determination to portray heroic roles and deserve ample opportunities to act in supreme performance action-centric movies.
