THE RECONCEPTUALIZATION OF HUMAN PSYCHE – CORONAVIRUS ERA

THE RECONCEPTUALIZATION OF HUMAN PSYCHE – CORONAVIRUS ERA

The ‘coronavirus pandemic’ has taken toll on the human behaviour, and has made man stare into the eyes of death, though he tries to bounce back at the nadir of each Coronavirus wave, but the reoccurrence of deadly infection has immensely affected human health and society’s outlook, perhaps gradually mutated the complete living and thought process. The concept of human resilience in the face of adversity is being tested, and the consequences of persistent stress and anxiety symptoms are becoming routine in one’s daily activities.

Earlier, the public and the administrators debated the origin of the virus, natural or a Frankenstein creation of some rogue, generated a great deal of investigative and conspiratorial theories around the world, led to considerable suspicion and mistrust, but the mass propagation in each cycle has exposed only the fallibility of human supremacy. The entire code of criticism rested on unproven and yet undiscovered science, based on hypothesis, not sustained by viable evidence, however, over a period of time, whatever may have been the cause or its beginning, but the spread is natural and no human force has been able to prevent its tiny droplets appearing even in the remotest parts of the planet. The initial period of human isolation and extended lockdowns resulted in hunger, mass migrations and huge economic suffering across the nations, exposing the moral depravity in the model on which the pantheons of the society were being built world over.

The first ray of hope that lit our life was the keen sense of charity, empathy and cooperation among individuals at local levels, whatever the governments could not think of or do, certain sections and individuals succoured selflessly and rewatered the seeds of change, perhaps required as man moves beyond 21st century. The paradigm shift in the way a human will deal with his mind, body and soul will define, sustain us and the existence of future generations, given the reality of evolutionary environmental and ecological modifications.

Those who have sailed in this era, comprehend that they cannot have the world as they want, presently the human spirit struggles to find goodwill, happiness and contentment. We have always contemplated that human race is immeasurably superior in our own mind and perpetually avoid the honest self-assessment about our inner true self and consider ourselves far more advanced and prosperous beings for inventing and developing difficult structures and appliances. Nonetheless, mother nature has hit mankind with vengeance in the shape of a ‘colossal’ Covid-19 outbreak, a lethal worldwide problem and its precipitous spread has awakened and cautioned humans to the vagaries of nature.  In this critical time, we realize that ‘Goddess of Earth’ like wildfire can severely punish and threaten humankind.

We have failed miserably to respect nature and its influence in everyday life. The planet Earth is our responsibility, we need to fathom local and global environmental phenomena, find solutions to prevent environmental risk factors which are detrimental to human health. Unfortunately, the human recklessness, disconnection and pressure on ecosphere is challenging and complex, requires vigorous effort for re-greening and rejuvenation, morally the basic duty of every citizen of the world to save the earth for millennia.

As Covid-19 and its mutations are spreading around the world with alarming speed, a section of people think that religious beliefs can rescue them from any calamity, and they resort to the dogmatic practices within their religious groups in a globalized world, still ignorant about the endless loss of human life and widespread disruptions impacting all communities.

It is noticeable that the irrational soothsayers, astrologers, augurs, oracles, pundits and crystal gazers were unable to predict the devastating virus, still unsuccessful to understand the effects of the ailment. The so-called ‘Nostradamus’ and the fake seers are completely at a loss for words since the tragic start of infectious disease in 2020. But there is an emergence of rationality and logic, the mere religious credo is not as intense as before, people are reassessing themselves and finding bliss in spirituality.

We yearn for understanding, empathy, peer connections and comfort of societal support, realize the significance of psychological aspects affecting everyday life which encourage all living beings to share joys and sorrows around the world. The renewed faith in the workers helping at the grass root level, be it doctors, nurses, medical helpers, and psychologists, reveals a more pragmatic and compassionate society. The social contact, conversations and good rapport are essential for mental and physical health, have changed our earlier perspective of human relationships.

A recent interest in healthy nutrition, sustainable local produce and traditional cooking benefits our physical well-being for a balanced life style. In lockdown, we felt more connected to our bodies by taking nutritious food, drinking healthy beverages, green teas, unprocessed foods rather than touted ‘superfoods’.

The global health calamity of the century has brought our grandmothers simple tasty and nutritious recipes back in the kitchen, and proudly we remember matriarch’s cuisine and natural remedies, which provided better immunity to our ancestors.

An educated and well-schooled ‘Generation Alpha’ is better informed about world affairs, their ongoing learning process is lifelong in the wake of competitive highly advanced emerging technologies in a fast-changing world, but the effect of restrictive nerve-racking lockdowns has had multifaceted impact on their overall health and made youth depressive.

Children and youth at an impressionable growing age are facing deep emotional traumas, difficulties and disappointments, as the spring of their life is interrupted and disrupted. Quarantine, and isolation have hindered their talent, obstructed normal life, devoid of any social interaction, sports and group activities, the youngsters are experiencing negative mind-set and low self-esteem. In this sensitive environment, parents, family, friends, care takers and support groups must offer compassion, counselling and psychological therapies to overcome their depression, pessimism and gloomy outlook.

Basically, we are social animals, surrounded by people who either uplift or lower our fundamental values, beliefs and ethics. In the midst of dark and stormy clouds, it is potentially important to find people in life who rekindle our vital aspirations and ambitions to pursue our dreams. They also challenge us to improve our mindset to be grateful, appreciative and more productive. The mutual reciprocity constructs an open, reasonable and more favourable learning environment, furthermore empowers people to learn from society and environs for positive psychology. Even though people who instigate us to become inferior, flawed and pathetic, at the same time the disagreements and contradictions assist us to undergo a change for self-development more effectively and competently, helps us to recognize the better version of our true self.

When we discover our own identity, it becomes much easier for us to define who we truly are and the recognition of our purpose in life leads to a healthy balance of mind, body, and soul, guides us to trust our instincts, boosts advanced understanding of common sense and right attitude, triggers mental, emotional and spiritual stimulation for wholesomeness. The intertwined relationship of mind, body and soul generates self-knowledge, focused attention, flexible reasoning, contentment and strengthens the sense of our being.

It is necessary to invigorate mind, body and soul simultaneously to shape our psyche for positive sway on changeable moods, negative emotions and environs. The spiritual beliefs, work outs, breathing techniques, yoga, meditation, exercises, art therapy and relaxation reawakens productive thinking, brings peace of mind, steers us to control agony for mental and emotional problems, discomposure, instability and unpredictable behaviour. Henceforth, the spiritual path is a universal human experience that outlines an unbiased objectivity in assessing one’s own powers and will be an instrumental part for mental tranquility of the populace. Over the years, it has been seen that spirituality is a broad concept that exceeds beyond religious or cultural parameters, brings peace and harmony with the universe.

Our greatest emotional need is to have a feeling of belongingness with optimistic people who believe in ‘healthy mind is in a healthy body’. The profound combination and good will of community ensues high spirits, bright and broader perspective to heal in safe surroundings. During this pandemic, we the social creatures are learning the art of communication and all of us creatively connect with others on social media and merrily enjoy tete-a-tete with strangers from different continents. The platform for wide ranging interaction has created consistent social fabric. The solidarity of community figures prominently in confidence building, alters human attitude in the best possible manner. Imperatively, the public network with trusting kinship, cognitive intimacy and unity evokes lasting affinity among individuals.

We all differ considerably in every respect, however, the catastrophic spell has brought diverse communities and divergent cultures together in meaningful interaction.  Time has come to enrich our lives with cordiality, friendliness and camaraderie, which should last as long as we envision a moral and civil societal structure. This ordeal has closely connected humans with nature and society, making us mentally and physically more resilient. At this juncture, the aspiring, career-focused and determined people with commitment to education, knowledge and social networking are disseminating wisdom, broadening cross-cultural horizons and bridging the gap between nationalism and globalization.

THE RISE OF ACTION GENRE - INDIAN ACTRESSES

THE RISE OF ACTION GENRE – INDIAN ACTRESSES The gradual progress of female action-oriented movies in Indian cinema started in late 80’s. The fundamental problem about the popularity and acceptance of heroine lead action movies in 80’s, continues to arise even at present, it is understandable with limited and prejudiced perception of audience about women in the dominant action roles, curtailed by the significant consideration extended to leading actors, with super heroes status, maintaining typical action formula. The quality of action-oriented film with inherent challenge requires natural talent with plausible personality and character. But it is only a decade since we are witnessing long delayed female action movies in modern times. At present, there are few female actresses, with merit, grit and determination to portray heroic roles and deserve ample opportunities to act in supreme performance action-centric movies. The debut of female ‘action act’ in Indian cinema was in
